Kathmandu, April 22
Nepal Communist Party Revolutionary Maoist’s unification with UCPN-Maoist remains stalled despite efforts by party general secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa (Badal) to make the much-awaited announcement on Lenin Day (April 22).
According to sources, Thapa wanted to have a vote on the unification proposal inside the party, and with the support of a majority he wanted announce the formal start of the process.
But party chairman Mohan Baidhya has told party leaders that the unity process will take time. The party’s central committee meeting has also been put off for a month. Party insiders say that Baidhya wants to delay the process because he does not want Thapa to play a central role in the proposed unification process.
Thapa still has the option of convening the central committee unilaterally, but he is refraining from doing so because he does not want to look impatient.
