Relations between Nepal and India will improve only when India stops micro-managing Nepal, a leader from the main opposition CPN-UML has said.
Speaking at a programme in the Capital on Thursday, CPN-UML secretary Yogesh Bhattarai expressed hope that Nepal-India relations will move ahead by upholding bilateral interests.
He pointed: Nepal has never been under colonial rule, India has. That’s why they know how important freedom is. Each country has its sensitivities. CPN-UML does not ignore sensitivities of any country. And no one has the right to play with our sensitivites.
Our party is in favour of elections, Bhattarai said, pointing that the Constitution does not pose any hurdle when it comes to conducting polls. He said tabling of a Constitution amendment proposal in the Parliament is a premeditated plot aimed at creating a destabilising environment and disrupting the polls.
If the Prachanda government was formed to implement the Constitution and protect recent achievements, it should conduct local elections by Baishakh-end, 2074 (mid-May, 2017) and other two elections — provincial and federal — within January 21, 2018.
At the programme, leader of the ruling CPN-Maoist Centre, Hari Bol Gajurel, said Nepal-India relations are passing through highs and lows.
Former foreign minister and leader of the Federal Socialist Forum, Upendra Yadav, said problems have arisen because in Nepal, every political party has its own foreign policy.
