Bhaktapur, April 14
Bhaktapur observed Sindur Jatra in Madhyapur Thimi in a big way on Thursday. Sindur Jatra is one of the major festivals of Bhaktapur. On this day, locals take out a colourful procession by putting deities in 32 palanquins and take them around town.
During this procession, spectators watching the Jatra of Goddess Balkumari and other deities from their houses shower flowers and vermillion powder as the procession passes through their part of town.
Amid the din of traditional musical instruments like Dhime, Kanya Baja and Bhusya Baja, revellers celebrate the occasion by dancing and sprinkling and applying Sindur (vermillion powder) on each other.
