Prince Edward tries woodcarving during Bhaktapur visit (Photos)

Kathmandu, February 5

British Prince Edward, who is currently on a visit to Nepal, toured the Bhaktapur area and even participated in traditional Nepali woodcarving.

During his visit, Prince Edward used a hammer and chisel to carve patterns into wood for a short while. He engaged in this activity at the Namuna Ghar in the Navadurga complex. Heritage conservationist and architect Rabindra Puri guided him through the Bhaktapur tour.

Puri also took Prince Edward to the Nepal Vocational Academy in Kamalbinayak, where young artisans were working on woodcarving. The prince inquired about the process of creating intricate designs, and after observing a demonstration by one of the young artisans, he tried carving himself using a chisel and hammer.

Accompanied by his wife, Sophie, Prince Edward also visited the Bhaktapur Durbar Square, where he showed keen interest in the region’s traditional art and culture.

Prince Edward arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday as part of a private visit. He is scheduled to return to the UK on February 9.
