Sindhupalchok, June 7
Cadres of Biplav’s Maoist party tried to attack Save the Children’s Sindhupalchok office at 11 pm on Monday.
According to police, a group of about six Maoist cadres hurled an explosive device made by filling petrol on a plastic bottle at the NGO’s Chautara-based office. A vehicle numbered Ba 13 Cha 5914 was damaged in the attack, police said.
In a press release, the Maoist party said it had to resort to an attack as NGOs were busy making money instead of focusing on post-quake reconstruction work and distributing relief to earthquake victims in the district.
The Maoist party has accused NGOs working in the district of making people buy goods from certain shops by getting commission, making people pay double the normal rates, not keeping their account books transparent even after spending five billion rupees on post-quake works and distributing substandard goods.
