Kathmandu, October 16
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said former prime minister Baburam Bhattarai’s claim that three top leaders of the two biggest parties pocketed Rs nine billion distributing among themselves was baseless.
Just a few days back, speaking in a function in his home district of Gorkha, Bhattarai had claimed Sher Bahadur Deuba of the Nepali Congress and KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal distributed Rs 9 billion among themselves from the budget allocated for Budhigandaki Hydropower Project. He had added he also had evidence of the irregularities.
Oli refuted the claim during a function organised at Nepal Police Headquarters on the occasion of Nepal Police Day on Friday.
He said, “I have heard an irresponsible statement that the current prime minister and his predecessors pocketed a certain amount from a project that is yet to be implemented and is uncertain. This baseless statement is there, but we cannot become that much irresponsible.”
Oli reiterated that the government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against corruption.
Oli and Dahal’s Nepal Communist Party and Deuba’s Nepali Congress have already refuted Bhattarai’s statement.
