Madhav Kumar Nepal, a senior leader from the main opposition CPN-UML, on Monday suggested the government to put the Constitution amendment proposal on hold, pass election-related laws through the Parliament and submit the same to the Election Commission.
UML leader Nepal, speaking at a meet the press programme that Press Chautari Nepal (Kaski) had organised, expressed worry, pointing that conspiracies were afoot to shelve elections under one pretext or other. He argued that implementing the Constitution will be possible only after conducting three-tier elections within January 21, 2018 and handing over responsibilities to elected representatives.
The leader said Constitution amendment is not a demand of the Madheshi peoples. He claimed that amendment will not pass through the House no matter what as the opposition parties together have one-third of votes required for making the amendment bid unsuccessful.
He requested all people to uphold the country by giving up greed.
