The number of cases is found increasing in Sudurpaschim province. The annual report of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA)’s Kanchanpur office has revealed growing graft incidents in the province.
The office chief Baram Khatiwada informs most of the complaints among 1,277 cases registered last year were against local governments and their officials. Most of the complaints were found associated to financial irregularities and sub-standard development works.
As many as 610 among the cases registered were dispensed and the remaining 667 are under investigation, the report states.
The anti-graft body report notes that 63 corruption cases reported in the fiscal year 2018/19 and 224 of the previous fiscal year were comprehensively studied and necessary actions were taken while 245 cases were sent to the concerned agencies for actions.
Chief Khatiwada says corruption has gone up at the local level with the increase in power and authority.
