Top leaders of the Nepali Congress have accused the CPN-UML of seeking to create divisions between the Hills, Himalayas and the Tarai region of Nepal by creating an environment of distrust. They also accused the main opposition of blocking the resolution of the political crisis prevailing in the country.
Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, addressing a meeting of district treasurers of the party in Kathmandu, said, referring to the UML: Activities that trigger conflicts between the Madhesh, Hills and the Himalayas will ultimately create huge trust deficit in the country. They will create a huge gulf of distrust.
Then Congress president Sushil Koirala and UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli had signed on the Constitution amendment proposal, Deuba noted, adding: If passage of this proposal brings peace in Madhesh, then it’s good for us.

On the occasion, Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel asked the UML to come to an agreement. The Congress, CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist Centre came together while promulgating the Constitution, Poudel said, adding: The three parties should also stand together while implementing the Constitution.
The big parties, which introduced the Constitution, need to show some flexibility, Poudel said, adding: If the UML thinks it is one of the forces behind the Constitution, it should realise that it also has the responsibility to implement it.
Trust deficit between political parties on Constitution implementation is causing distrust between communities as well, he said.
Three major parties — the NC, UML and the Centre — should stand together for conducting three-tier elections, NC General Secretary Shashank Koirala said. He called the UML to come to an agreement.
