Kathmandu, August 2
CPN-UML has decided not to field candidature in the race for Prime Minister, in which Prachanda, CPN-Maoist Centre Chair, is the one and the only contender thus far. The Nepali Congress and the United Democratic Madheshi Front are backing Prachanda.
Tuesday’s meeting of the CPN-UML standing committee decided not to field candidature for the top post after a lengthy discussion.
The committee decided to vote against Prachanda and sit in the opposition bench.
UML under secretary general Bishnu Poudel told Onlinekhabar that the party has decided to vote against Prachanda and stay in the opposition.
Prachanda fielded his candidature in the Parliament Secretariat after the NC and the CPN-Maoist Centre reached a deal with the United Democratic Madheshi Front, making it almost clear that Prachanda will win the race for PM.
The election is taking place at 3 pm on Wednesday.
