Defence Minister Khand says Nepal will not allow use of its territories against any country

Minister for Defence Balkrishna Khand said Nepal will not let activities against India and China take place in its territories.

Minister Khand, speaking at a face-to-face that Reporters’ Club had organised, said India and China are Nepal’s friends and neighbours. We will not let activities against the two countries take place in Nepal, Khand said.

He said: Both the countries are important for Nepal. They have huge populations and they are huge geographically as well.

For development of India and China also, there shouold be peace and stability in their neighbouring countries, Khand pointed, adding that they want both China and India to develop further.

He said: Nepal is strategically important for both the countries. Nepal should not let activities against any country take place in its soil.

Khand reiterated the government will not let activities against China and India take place in its soil.

On the occasion, he lauded Nepal Army for working day in, day out for the protection of the country and the people.

The national army has always played a role for national interest and national defence, he said, adding: After the restoration of peace in the country, the roles of the army and other security agencies have changed.

He lauded the army for playing a constructive role in disaster control and in the construction of roads in hilly and Himalayan regions.

Minister Khand described Indian President Pranab Mukherjee’s three-day Nepal visit as fruitful.

He said: Indian President’s arrival in Nepal is a huge achievement. The visit has played an important role in taking friendly relations between Nepal and India to new heights.

Khand, in another context, said efforts are underway to amend the Constitution by incorporating concerns of all concerned. Constitution amendment is necessary for implementation of the Constitution and for holding three-tier — local, federal and central — elections.

He said the Congress will move ahead by incorporating aspirations of all concerned.
