CPN-UML leader in Chitwan district, Devi Gyawali, says he is ready to command the election campaign for CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in Chitwan district.
Dahal is planning to contest the House of Representatives elections from Chitwan-3 with the support of CPN-UML. It is interesting to note that Gyawali was defeated by Dahal’s daughter, Renu, in a tough race for the mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City, in May this year.
The vote counting was halted for weeks in the city after some alleged Maoist cadres torn ballot papers whose counting was yet to be done. During that time, Gyawali had accused the Maoist party of orchestrating the drama of tearing ballot papers to defeat him.
But, the announcement of leftist alliance between two parties have brought Gyawali and Dahal together.
The two leaders held a meeting at UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli’s residence in Balkot of Bhaktapur today, in which Gyawali said he would lead the poll campaign for Dahal. He, however, put a precondition that both provincial constituencies in Dahal’s region should be left for the UML.
“I am a party cadre. We may review what happened yesterday later. But today, the UML has got an opportunity to lead the unified communist party of the country,” Gyawali reportedly said, “Hence, I am ready to be the command of Prachand Comrade to secure his victory.”
It is said that Oli had called Gyawali to Kathmandu to meet Dahal.
