Dhungana appointed Acting Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank

Kathmandu, April 7

Nilam Dhungana has been appointed Acting Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank. She currently serves as the senior Deputy Governor.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel assigned her the role in accordance with Section 27 of the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2002, according to the Ministry of Finance. Dhungana has held the position of Deputy Governor for the past four years.

Before this, she dedicated 27 years of service to the central bank in various capacities, including Executive Director and Director. She holds a PhD in Monetary Economics from Mewar University in India.

Former Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari officially stepped down last Friday. With no political consensus between the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML on a permanent appointment, the government has opted for an interim arrangement. According to sources, Finance Minister Paudel entrusted Dhungana with the responsibility amid the ongoing political stalemate.
