Kathmandu, December 4
Foreign Affairs Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali says the door for formal talks with India on the border dispute has finally opened after the closure of over a year.
Gyawali is of the view that the recent Nepal visit of Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla created an environment for formal talks.
Speaking in a meeting of the International Relations Committee in the House of Representatives on Friday morning, Gyawali said Nepal had made three achievements out of Shringla’s visit.
“First, a door has opened for the talks that were stalled since the publication of the new political map. Second, Nepal raised the border issue as a formal item on the agenda. Both countries are ready to seek a solution through talks. The third, next steps have been finalised.”
He hoped that foreign secretaries of both countries would meet soon to discuss the border dispute in detail.
