Chitwan, July 10
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Krishna Bahadur Mahara says PM Deuba will expand is Cabinet only after Parliament endorses the Constitution Amendment Bill.
Mahara, who was speaking at programme organised by the Maoist-aligned Press Centre, said the government was preparing to put to amendment bill to vote within a few days. “The amendment bill will be presented in Parliament within a matter of few days,” he said.
Mahara also informed that a Nepali delegation will soon head to India to assess the impact the new Goods and Services Tax recently rolled out by the Indian government. “I also raised the issue with the Indian foreign minister when I was in New Delhi recently,” the minister added.
The government is under intense pressure form Madhesh-based parties to amend the new constitution to address their demands. Polling in the Local Elections had to be postponed in Province 2 because of the government’s failure to amend the constitution. According to sources, the government wants to put the amendment bill to vote so that Madhesh-based parties can contest the third round of local elections.
