Kathmandu, April 24
Eleven houses and sheds got destroyed when a fire engulfed Bhalayadanda forest in Sandhikharka municipality-2 on Saturday. The fire caused minor damage to the studio of Radio Arghakhanchi. By Saturday night, the fire spread to Kimdandaforest and houses located nearby.
The flames have destroyed the houses and sheds of Ashok Pokhrel, Bheshraj Banjade, Shalikram Pokhrel, Ganesh Budhathoki and Dilliram Marasini, according to police.
Security personnel and local people managed to extinguish the fire late into the night, DSP Navaratna Poudel said, pointing that strong winds made firefighting really difficult.
Meanwhile, a youth, who sustained burns while trying to extinguish the flames in Dhaireni community forest in Malagiri, Gulmi district, died in course of treatment at Kathmandu Model Hospital. The deceased is Kamal Khadka (21) of Malagiri-2. Khadka had sustained the burns about a fortnight ago.
