Kathmandu, January 26
Revenue generated from Sagarmatha National Park in the Everest region has increased by 10 per cent.
During the first six months of the current fiscal year, the park generated over Rs 69.67 million in revenue, an increase of around Rs 7 million compared to last year, said its information officer Manoj Kumar Mandal.
According to Mandal, who serves as the conservation officer of the park, the highest amount has been collected from tourism, totalling Rs 66.67 million, followed by forest produce sale and distribution, amounting to Rs 40,830, and fines. He said that tourism is the primary source of revenue for the park.
According to the national park office, 28,390 tourists visited the Everest region this fiscal year. The park collects Rs 100 per person from Nepalis, Rs 1,500 from tourists from SAARC countries, and Rs 3,000 from non-SAARC countries. Additionally, a landing fee of Rs 3,000 is charged for each helicopter landing.
