Barcelona, February 14
Minister for Foreign Affairs Prakash Sharan Mahat held talks with his Belgian counterpart Didier Reynders in the Belgian capital Brussels on Monday afternoon.
The discussions focused on matters of mutual interest, the Embassy of Nepal in Belgium informed.
Aid plea, bilateral mechanism
Mahat, who is in Belgium on a four-day visit, asked the Belgian government to assist Nepal in the post-quake reconstruction work. IN a press release, the embassy said the foreign ministries of the two countries have reached an understanding to form a bilateral consultative mechanism. The two sides had elaborate discussions on development assistance, trade, investment and tourism.
According to the press release, Foreign Minister Mahat thanked Belgium for its assistance in rescue and relief distribution during the quake. Mahat also appraised his counterpart on the latest political developments in Nepal, states the release. Mahat also invited Reynders to Nepal.
Briefing on peace process
Mahat is also holding talks with officials of the European Union headquartered in Brussels as well as other officials of Belgium and Luxembourg. On Tuesday, during an international high-level mediation conference, Mahat will also speak about the status of Nepal’s peace process.

The statement had described the Constitution as incomplete and stressed the need to incorporate certain issues into it.
