Kathmandu, December 2
KP Singh, dean of the Institute of Medicine, has resigned.
Singh submitted his resignation to Tirtha Khaniya, vice-chancellor, Tribhuvan University, on Friday.
TU had appointed Singh as IOM dean 20 days ago.
Right after his appointment, Dr Govinda KC had started a fresh round of hunger strike, demanding reforms in the medical sector and Singh’s ouster.
Despite several rounds of hunger strike, successive governments have not bothered to address Dr KC’s demands. In recent days, resident doctors of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital have also launched a strike in support of Dr KC. The standoff between the government and Dr KC has affected the country’s public health deliversy system, putting service-seekers at the receiving end.
