Govt announces team to talk to Biplav

Kathmandu, March 2
The government has announced a team led by Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa to hold talks with the Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led Maoist party that has been involved in terrorist activities for the past few years.
Citing its activities amounted to terrorism, the government had banned the armed outfit in 2019.
However, a recent cabinet meeting decided to initiate talks with them to bring them to the peace process.
The government spokesperson, Communications Minister Parbat Gurung, says the two-member team includes Thapa and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s foreign affairs advisor Rajan Bhattarai.
Gurung also says the government will soon lift the ban imposed on the party.
Just a few days ago, the party had issued a statement, saying it was ready for the talks. Accordingly, the prime minister was also saying that he would bring Biplav back to mainstream politics.
Bipalv also announcing his team
