The meeting of the House of Representatives is taking place at 4 pm today. The meeting scheduled for 11 am before this has been postponed as efforts are underway to forge a consensus for removing the House deadlock.
“The meeting has been deferred from the slated time after Speaker Devraj Ghimire held a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal,” said Ghimire’s Press Coordinator Shekhar Adhikari.
The Prime Minister had urged the Speaker to postpone the meeting, citing that initiatives were on to forge consensus with the main opposition party, the Nepali Congress.
The Nepali Congress has been obstructing the parliament’s proceedings, demanding the formation of a parliamentary committee to carry out an impartial investigation alleging the involvement of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane in the misappropriation of the cooperatives’ funds.
