House to begin pre-budget discussion before tabling annual policy and programme

Sitting arrangements have been changed in Parliament building to avoid the risk of coronavirus infection, for the upcoming budget session, beginning Friday, May 8, 2020.

Kathmandu, May 7

The Federal Parliament will begin the pre-budget discussion in the House of Representatives before President Bidya Devi Bhandari will table the government’s annual policy and programme this year.

The ruling Nepal Communist Party’s parliamentary party deputy leader Subas Chandra Nembang says the parties in the House have agreed to begin the pre-budget discussion coming Sunday whereas the president will address the joint meeting of two houses after five days only, on May 15.

In previous years, the pre-budget discussion would begin only after tabling the policy and programme. However, the schedule is changed this year as the government has to present the annual budget plan on May 28 as per the constitution.

The budget session will begin this Friday.
