Impeach Lokman motion may push Constitution amendment to the backburner: Rajendra Mahato

Kathmandu, October 24 Rajendra Mahato, president of Sadbhavana Party, a part of the United Democratic Madheshi Front, has expressed worries that the Lokman impeachment motion may obscure their agenda — amendment to the new Constitution.

Mahato claimed that the motion serves the interests of three major political parties — the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and the CPN-Maoist Centre.

Mahato told Onlinekhabar: The Lokman impeachment motion is not an issue of national importance. It serves the interests of three political parties.

It appears that interests of three parties has obscured national interest, he said.

Mahato said it is but natural to file an impeachment motion as per the Constitution. Whether an individual remains in power or loses his/her position is not an important issue, he said. But this motion is putting the issue of Constitution amendment to the backburner, he said, describing the motion as what he called untimely tune.

At the same time, Mahato said: With the impeachment motion already registered in the Parliament, Madheshi Morcha (UDMF) will come up with its stance on the issue.

He said they will take an adequate decision soon by holding a meeting.
