Kathmandu, June 14
India has sent Nepal a report of a preliminary engineering and traffic survey for the proposed Raxaul-Kathmandu railway project.
The report has been submitted to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to Department of Railways chief Bala Ram Mishra.
The report was prepared by Konkan Railway Corporation Limited.
Mishra says he cannot make any comment on contents of the report as he is yet to study it. The Foreign Ministry had forwarded the report to the Transport Ministry just this week, according to him.
It has been learned that the Indian side had asked Nepal to choose between two options of 190 km and 140 km, before preparing the report. Nepali officials had favoured the shorter route.
Officials believe the Indian side has addressed Nepal’s concerns in the report.
Once the officials study the report, preparations will begin to draft a detailed project report.
