Kathmandu, May 16
Armed Nepal Police personnel reportedly entered into the bordering Indian town of Sunauli on Sunday without informing competent authorities, caught a youth and returned to Nepal with him, Indian media reported.
According to a report published in livehindustantimes.com, Sunauli police and security agencies deployed along the Nepal border did nothing against this breach. Even when this incident came to light, authorities concerned denied that it ever took place, goes the report.
The news site noted there have been previous instances in which Indian security personnel have strayed into Nepal. In such instances, they would be kept in custody in Nepal for hours and released only after intervention from senior Indian officials, it said, without providing the dates.
The report stated that the said incident took place at 1.30 pm on Sunday. Armed police personnel from Belahiya of Nepal came up to Ramjanaki Square, caught a youth with drugs and returned with him, while SSB, customs and police officials looked on. The authorities did not bother to inform the DM (district magistrate) and SP about the incident, it states. DM Birendra Kumar Singh and SP Bharat Singh Yadav have pledged to take appropriate action after investigating the incident.
