Ward chairs in the Janakpur sub-metropolitan city, the capital of Province 2, have launched a movement against the mayor, to put pressure on him for better waste management in the city.
The chairpersons of wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 10, on Sunday morning, littered the road outside Mayor Lal Kishor Sah’s house.
“Despite our frequent calls, the mayor has not expressed his concerns over waste management,” ward 7 chairman Janaki Ram Sah, says, “Instead of solving the problem, he has gone to Kathmandu during this festive season.”
He even does not pick calls of ward chairs, they say.
Ward chair Sah also accuses the mayor of ignoring the demands for convening a meeting of the city government, adding the ward chairs, hence, were forced to throw waste in front of his house.
The ward chairs have given a three-day ultimatum to solve the problem. “If not, we will launch another form of protest,” ward chair Sah says.
Many places of the city including Pidari Chok, Ramananda Chok, Janaki temple, and the Provincial Hospital are littered with waste for the past few days.
