Jhamel Beats in Jhamsilkhel is like any other restaurant around the area. But what stands out is its hospitality and food. While it is not as big as other establishments in the area, the restaurant is just perfect for those who just care about the food.
The owners named the place Jhamel Beats because that is where Jhamsikhel (Jhamel in short) starts. The restaurant has two seating areas. The main one will make you feel you’re inside a sports bar. The walls are decorated with sporting greats and also has a massive television to enjoy the best sporting actions. The other seating area is small, but cozy, and is ideal for meetings.
Initially, the owners noticed that Jhamsikhel didn’t have many sports bar and wanted to open one. But after they saw that most of their customers wanted variety in the menu, they decided to open a full-fledged restaurant.
As one of the owners hails from Darjeeling, the menu also has a Darjeeling touch to it. The owner’s mother personally came to Kathmandu and helped create some recipes widely enjoyed by customers.
One such food item is their chicken jol momo. The momos were quite big as compared to other places and tasted quite homely. The reason for the homely taste is because they do not use any artificial flavour which is a rarity when it comes to restaurants in Kathmandu. The soup the momo was dipped into was just as good and was full of flavour. Definitely worth trying when you visit the restaurant.
As the restaurant is also a good place for a drink, I also tried some snacks which would go well with a cold glass of beer. First I tried the crispy chicken which was spicy and quite crunchy. It had a good kick to it and a nice after taste. The chicken was fried and cooked perfectly and it well with the spicy fries which come with homemade mayonnaise. Both these snacks are ideal starters to munch on with family or friends.
The restaurant also serves other dishes like the chicken parma and the BBQ wings, both of which has received a lot of praise from customers. Apart from that, the Darjeeling aludum is also good along with their softshell takos and pork skewer. The restaurant also has a decent range of drinks to choose from which mean you can come here to watch your favourite football matches during the weekends.
To sum up, the place even though small, is quite nice. It can fit up to 30 people–ideal for private parties. Its hospitable owners and staff along with the homely yet intricate menu will surely make you want ti come back for more.
