Myagdi, August 29
The Jomsom-Pokhara air service has resumed today after a two-month suspension. The air service between Pokhara, the capital of Gandaki Province, and the tourist district of Mustang was halted on July 1 due to unfavourable weather conditions.
Chief of Jomsom Airport, Keshav Lamsal, reported that Summit Air operated five flights today after the two-month hiatus. “The weather has improved, and with the tourist season approaching, the Pokhara-Jomsom air service has been resumed,” Lamsal said. “Tara Air, a sister company of Yeti Airlines, is also set to begin flights from September 2.”
Lamsal mentioned that 90 passengers arrived in Mustang via the five flights. The resumption of air service has provided relief to residents of Mustang, as well as pilgrims and tourists, especially since landslides on the Beni-Jomsom road section in Myagdi have disrupted road transportation.
During the road blockage and the absence of air service, travellers had no choice but to pay high fees for helicopter transportation.
