Kathmandu, January 23
The Kathmandu metropolitan city says it has extended the term of a committee that is investigating a charge of workplace harassment labelled against city police chief Raju Nath Pandey for the second time.
Pandey is accused of harassing a female head constable after she applied for maternity leave. Following that, the woman filed a complaint with Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol and Chief Administrative Officer Basanta Adhikari, demanding action.
After the complaint was filed, the local government in late December 2022 commissioned a three-member team led by its Social Development Department Chief Gopal Prasad Pokharel to look into the case. Other members of the team are Sumitra Lamichhane from the Justice Administration Department and Kumari Rai from the Urban Planning Department.
The committee was given two weeks to conclude its assignment, but it could not complete the task even in the second 15 days extended earlier.
Rai says the committee has now been told to submit its report within one week.
Earlier, the local government had asked Pandey to clarify the charge, upon which he pleaded innocent.
