Kathmandu, February 29
There was a clash between street vendors and the Kathmandu City Police in Sundhara, Kathmandu on Wednesday evening.
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City, which has prohibited street vendors in the city during the day had stated that the vendors would be allowed to sell their goods after 9 pm.
However, on Wednesday evening, city police removed the vendors as they began operating on the pavements around the Sundhara area after 7 pm.
A confrontation followed between the two parties which resulted in things getting physical with the city police resorting to using batons on the vendors.
“They hit us with sticks after which we retaliated. They even arrested some of our friends,” said Kumar Sapkota.
City Police Chief Rajunath Pandey, however, said the city police only used force after stones were pelted at them.
“Around seven of us have been injured,” he said.
