Kathmandu, June 22
Congress leader KB Gurung has been elected chair of Parliamentary Hearing Committee, unopposed.
Gurung’s election comes a few days after major political parties agreed to allow the principal opposition party, the Nepali Congress, to decide who gets the post.
Speaker Onsari Gharti has already administered Gurung his oath of office.
The committee has an important role to play as nominations to constitutional bodies have to be approved by it. Major political parties were in disagreement over the committee following the promulgation of the new constitution in September 2015.
