Kathmandu metropolitan city to train youth in traditional craft

Kathmandu, May 9

Kathmandu metropolitan city is training youth in traditional crafts.

According to the Department of Heritage and Tourism of the metropolis, 75 young men and women are going to be trained in woodcarving, pottery and sukul (a mat made of hay) weaving skills.

The city government in collaboration with the Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal (FHAN) is providing 45-day training to 25 people in advanced woodcarving, 15-day basic training to 25 people in pottery making and 15-day basic training to 25 people in sukul weaving.

Archana Shrestha, the head of the Department of Heritage and Tourism, informed that the metropolitan city wants to provide employment and income generation opportunities to those who take the skill training.
