Local poll nomination: 9 hurt in Kapilbastu explosion

Kapilbastu, June 18

At least nine persons sustained injuries when an improvised explosive devise went off in Gajedaha, Banganga-4 of Kapilbastu district on Sunday, when candidacy nominations were being filed for the second phase of local level elections scheduled for June 28.

Four of them are said to be critical.

Police suspected that the CPN Maoist led by Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’ planted the explosive in order to terrorise locals in the run-up to the polls. The Maoist outfit is carrying out various activities against the polls.

Most of the injured are cadres of Nepali Congress and CPN-Maoist Centre as the parties were filing nominations at the Office of Banganga Municipality.

The Municipality Office was just 30 metres away from the incident site.
