Kathmandu, July 5
The first edition of the Mandala Alumni Drama Festival (MAD-Fest), organized by the Mandala Alumni Circle, begins on Friday at Mandala Theatre, Kathmandu. Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Sunita Dangol, chaired the event.
During the event, Dangol emphasized that theatre culture is crucial for preserving art and tradition, noting its deep connection with Kathmandu, where theatre used to be staged in the dabali.
“I wish the success of the MAD-Fest. I hope to see the festival in the coming years as well. KMC is always ready to coordinate with this kind of initiation,” said Dangol.
Railway to Nowhere, directed by Samyog Guragain, was staged as the opening play. Another play, Ankuran, directed by Sagar Karki, was also staged on the first day. The three-day-long festival will feature six plays, panel discussions, and musical and poetry sessions.
The other plays scheduled for the festival are Agam, Nugdha, Shilpini, and Mirror.
During the opening event, Anup Neupane, director of the festival, mentioned that the festival aims to provide opportunities to young theatre practitioners.
