Kathmandu, February 24
Mahashivaratri, according to legends, is the night when Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati tied the knot. Nepal celebrates the big day in a big way, especially in and around the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu. Lakhs of faithfuls from India, different parts of Nepal and many other countries around the world throng to Kathmandu, waiting in line lines at the temple for darshan.
Sadhus of different hues and colours are part of that sea of humanity that come to Kathmandu, with many choosing to shift their bases around the temple. Would you like to sample these pictures and get in on the festive mood?
