Prof Achyut Prasad Wagle has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Kathmandu University (KU). Prime Minister and KU Chancellor KP Sharma Oli appointed Wagle to the post on Monday under Clause 13 (4) of the KU Act, 2048.
The government had formed a three-member search committee to recommend candidates for the position. Born in Kavre district in 2025 BS, Wagle previously served as Acting Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of KU. He has also worked as an Assistant Dean at KU’s School of Management and an Adjunct Professor.
Wagle holds a PhD in Economics from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and an MSc from the University of Birmingham, UK. He also earned an MA from Tribhuvan University, Nepal.
A well-known columnist, he has previously served as an advisor to the Prime Minister and the central bank. His expertise includes business, environmental issues, regional economics, fiscal federalism, and entrepreneurship.
