Kathmandu, May 21
The opposition parties as well as the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led faction of the ruling CPN-UML have decided to stake their claim to the position of the country’s prime minister, claiming they have secured the support of the majority of the House of Representatives members.
They claim the side has 149 lawmakers.
CPN-Maoist Centre leader Barsha Man Pun says the opposition parties are submitting signatures of 61 lawmakers of the Nepali Congress, 49 of the Maoist Centre, 27 of the Nepal faction of the UML and 12 of the Upendra Yadav-led faction of the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal to President Bidya Devi Bhandari.
President Bhandari has given the parties a deadline of 5 pm today to stake the claim.
