With a recent appointment of the new chairman in the national flag carrier, Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), with executive powers, incumbent Managing Director Dim Prasad Poudel has been powerless.
Recently, the government had appointed Ubaraj Adhikari as the executive chairman of the NAC. With the appointment, Adhikari has been leading both the NAC board and its management team.
Previous to this, Poudel, appointed by the CPN-UML-led government in October 2020 for four years, had been leading the management of the corporation.
Poudel says he is hopeful that a new board meeting of the NAC would delegate some rights and responsibilities to him. Adhikari, however, refused to speak over the issue.
In September 2018 also, a similar incident had happened as the government then appointed Madan Kharel as the executive chairman of the board, rendering managing director Sugat Ratna Kansakar powerless. While Kansakar was expected to resign, he did not budge and completed his four-year term.
