Kathmandu, August 14
Two chairmen of the ruling Nepal Communist Party have formed a six-member task force to suggest a solution to the dispute between them.
A meeting between KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Friday formed the team.
When the party’s standing committee meeting began on June 24, Dahal had demanded Oli’s resignation from the positions of party chair and prime minister, accusing him of failure. Oli, however, has been refusing to give up even one position, leading the party to the months-long stalemate. Following the dispute, the standing committee meeting has been repeatedly postponed without discussing any item of the set agenda.
But, after several rounds of meetings over the past few weeks, the leaders today formed the task force, including two leaders from each of the three influential factions in the party, according to the party’s general secretary Bishnu Paudel. Paudel himself leads the panel.
Paudel and Shankar Pokhrel from the Oli camp, Janardan Sharma and Pampha Bhusal from the Dahal camp, and Bhim Rawal and Surendra Pandey from the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led factions are members of the committee.
Paudel says the task force will complete its assignment as soon as possible.
