Kathmandu, February 12
A lawmaker of the ruling Nepal Communist Party has expressed his concerns over the pieces of fake news that have been shared on social media about the Millennium Challenge Corporation grant agreement, stating they are as serious as the novel coronavirus infection that has terrorised the whole world of late.
Speaking during a House of Representatives meeting on Wednesday afternoon, Gajendra Bahadur Mahat said the government should make the public clear about the right interpretation of the 2017 deal on time, warning the fake news would promote other serious problems otherwise. He demanded that the Federal Parliament also hold a discussion about the issue.
“The MCC ‘virus’ (fake news) has reached the grassroots. Everything has been misinterpreted. Everything is negative,” he said, “It might be too late till we make a decision. It should not be ignored.”
