Kathmandu, July 11
A government monitoring team has sealed Matatirtha Spring Mineral Water Company based in Kanchan Vasti, Chandragiri municipality-12. The company produces Royal brand mineral water. The team directed company officials to present themselves before the Department of Supplies Management within three days with a clarification upon finding that the company had not bothered to maintain quality of water despite a warning issued a month ago.
About a month ago, the department had directed the company to adhere to certain standards of purity. During the monitoring on Monday, the team found the company flouting the warning, so it sealed the company, Dipak Raj Poudel, the team coordinator, informed.
In course of monitoring, the team found bottled water to be of poor quality and existence of a stinking toilet quite close to the processing plant, among others.
The team comprised Poudel, officer at the department, Kapil Prasad Regmi from the Ministry of Supplies, Shila Sapkota, officer at the Kathmandu district administration office, Bodhraj Dahal of the Drinking Water Board, Karna Bahadur Chand of the Food Technology and Quality Control Department, police officials and representatives from Supplies Minister’s personal secretariat.
