Kathmandu, May 6
Today is Matatirtha Aunsi (also called Amako Mukh Herne Din), a special day dedicated to Mothers, a day when Hindus and Buddhists worship Mothers by conducting different rituals. On this very day, people gather at Matatirtha, on the outskirts of Kathmandu close to Thankot, to pay homage to mothers, who have left this world.
As newborns, as children and even as grown-ups, most of us depend on mothers for a lot of things. Most of us we look up to mothers whenever we need something because we are a bit hesitant before our fathers and a bit fearful too. With mums, we feel more at ease when it comes to making demands, almost certain that she will fulfill them.
Like in previous years, people worshipped their mothers and received blessings in return. And like in previous years, hundreds of people visited Matatirtha Aunsi to pay their respect to mothers, who have left for the other world. Here are some of the glimpses from the Mothers’ Day at Matatirtha.
