The meeting of the Parliament, scheduled for 2 pm on Thursday, has been adjourned till 1 pm, Friday as top leaders of major political parties failed to reach an understanding on the House’s business schedule.

CPN-UML and the alliance comprising Nepali Congress and the CPN-Maoist Centre are not on the same page over the schedule. The UML wants passage of budget-related Bills first, where the NC and the Centre want the House to convene discussions on their no-confidence motion against the KP Oli government first.

Because of this difference, the House meeting scheduled for 11 am on Thursday was adjourned till 2 pm. In the meantime, Speaker Onsari Gharti tried to make top leaders of the three political parties come to an agreement, but to no avail. This led to rescheduling of the House meeting.

Meanwhile, NC leader Ram Chandra Poudel has floated a proposal to end the deadlock.

He has called for passage of budget-related Bills, resignation of PM Oli, withdrawal of the no-confidence motion, election of a new PM and a commitment for implementation of the new Constitution.

PM Oli said he will convene discussions on Poudel’s proposal within his party — CPN-UML.
