Kathmandu, June 21
Outside the Narayanhiti Royal Palace Gate, there was a bizarre spectacle on Tuesday. The vital road in front of the palace was captured, literally. In attendance were Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and his wife, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa and India’s Ambassador to Nepal, Ranjit Rae.
All this preparation was for celebrating the International Yoga Day. The road outside Narayanhiti was made the venue, with Tundikhel turned muddy due to rainfall.
On the first row were PM Oli and his wife, accompanied by DPM Thapa and India’s Ambassador Rae. Clad in kurta-suruwal, PM Oli was sporting a Yoga Day t-shirt like other participants. While PM Oli easily did some of the postures like Surya Namasar easily, some others seemed too difficult for him. PM Oli delivered a speech on the occasion, throwing light on the importance of the day.
Acting on a proposal from India, the United Nations had started celebrating yoga day worldwide two years ago.
Here are some pictures from the spectacle of the day outside Narayanhiti:
