Kathmandu, January 8
Speaker Onsari Gharti has called a meeting of top leaders from five major political parties on Sunday afternoon.
The meeting will take place at the Parliament Building at 1 am, before the Parliament meeting that is taking place after a hiatus of six days. Top leaders of the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Centre, RPP and MJF (Democratic) will participate in the meeting.
The Parliament Secretariat informed that a House Business Committee meeting is also slated for today.
Subas Nembang, deputy leader of the UML Parliamentary Party, had sought postponement of the House meeting till January 8. Subsequently, Speaker Onsari Gharti put the meeting on hold till January 8. With the UML asking the Prachanda government not to push the Constitution Amendment Bill through the parliamentary process, obstructions in the House are likely to continue.
At the same time, the UML has said it is ready to let the Parliament reopen for pressing ahead Local Election Bills and the impeachment motion against suspended CIAA Chief Commissioner Lok Man Singh Karki.
On the other hand, the government is preparing to table the Bill despite UML’s objections.
