The central bank says Nepalis have over 31.8 million bank accounts whereas 67 per cent of the citizens have access to banking services.
While there are 31.8 million bank accounts, around 67.34 per cent of the citizens have at least one account with at least one bank, the Nepal Rastra Bank says, publishing the data as of mid-June 2021.
Of total accounts, 93.48 per cent are held by natural individuals whereas the rest are by organisations, groups and companies.
However, of total accounts, only 67.7 per cent are active. Of the accounts held by women, 72.3 per cent are active whereas men’s 64.2 per cent accounts are active.
The central bank says the ratio of people with banking access is gradually increasing as it was just 60.9 per cent two years ago.
