Kathmandu, November 21

Two of Nepal’s political parties, considered as ‘former roaylists’ are announcing the formal unification of their ranks, in Kathmandu, on Monday.

Following the unification the party will have 37 seats in parliament, making it the fourth largest force in the House. This number is especially important as the government prepares to table a proposal in Parliament to amend the new constitution–a move which requires two-third majority to sail through.

The Pashupati Samsher Rana-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and the Kamal Thapa-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N) will become a new party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, leaders have said.

The formal announcement of unification will be made a programme in the capital on Monday. Both parties have already passed an interim statute to allow to people to become president until the unified party holds its general convention within the next three months.

Similarly, according to the interim statute, the party will have a core leadership comprising five members: Lokendra Bahadur Chand, Biswabandhu Thapa and Prakash Chandra Lohani, who will become the party’s chief in two months.

Rastriya Prajatantra Party was formed by former members of the royal regime following the restoration of multiparty democracy in Nepal.
