Kathmandu, May 27
Three major political parties — the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and the UCPN-Maoist — have failed to reach an agreement on the formation of the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee. Now, the parties will make efforts to reach a deal only after the budget speech for the fiscal 2073-74.
On Friday, the three parties had held a meeting at the call of Speaker Onsari Gharti. At the meeting, the parties stuck to their respective stances on the PHSC.
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba said the committee should have 75 members, whereas Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli said it should have 15 members.
With neither party willing to relent, the parties wrapped up the meeting, agreeing to discuss the issue after the budget speech.
The government is presenting the budget in the Parliament on Saturday.
The PHSC conducts hearing on appointment in constitutional positions and diplomatic missions. With the PHSC yet to take shape, the process of appointment of Chief Justice, justices and ambassadors remains stuck.
