Kathmandu, December 22
The main opposition CPN-UML and other opposition parties have decided to intensify their movement against the government-sponsored Constitution Amendment Bill, which seeks to remove Hill districts from Province 5. The Bishwendra Paswan-led Dalit Janajati Party has also joined in the team of agitating parties, taking their number to nine.
In view of the Christian new year, the parties have decided to organise a mass gathering in Kathmandu on January 6, 2017. Earlier, they had plans to hold the assembly on Jaunary 1.
Thursday’s meeting of the opposition parties, which deputy leader of the UML Parliamentary Party Subas Nembang chaired, decided to announce fresh protests aimed at pressing the government to withdraw the Bill. Chiefs of the nine parties will announce the protest programmes at a joint press conference on Sunday.
The meeting decided not to let the government table the Bill in the Parliament, no matter what, apart from giving continuity to House obstruction, UML Chief Whip Bhanu Bhakta Dahal informed.
