Lawmaker Wangdi Sherpa allegedly beat up a Nepal government employee at Khejenim VDC, Taplejung district, on Friday.
Sherpa thrashed Bhim Ghimire, employee at district veterinary office assigned to collect data at Khejenim. Ghimire visited Sherpa’s house on Friday to collect data, only to be told to show his identity card. Ghimire said: Sherpa first sought my identity card. When I said I don’t have it, Sherpa took him under control, locked me in a room and beat me up.
Ghimire said Sherpa released him only when he phoned police and social mobilisers. Local people also said Sherpa took the employee under control for two-three hours and beat him up.
However, Sherpa claimed he only had wanted to know from Ghimire as to why he was not carrying his identity card.
After the incident, district police office mediated between lawmaker Sherpa and government employee Ghimire. Chief district officer Nara Bahadur Khadka said: The government employee was not carrying his ID card. The two had a verbal spat. Possibly, lawmaker pushed the employee during the spat. Keeping this in view, we made peace between the two parties.
CDO Khadka and Ram Chandra Nepal, Taplejung district chair of the authentic trade union of government employees, had visited the police office on Friday evening to make peace between the two parties.
